Unfort:mately, the British were unable to keep to their side of the bargain as all contact with India was lost until February, 1945, after which date British liaison was re-established. From then on the MPAJA was organized into five patrols of not less than 100 men each. British officers had operational command but internal command was carried out by the MPAJA's own officers. By the time of the Japanese surrender, there were over 4000 members of the MPAJA under the control of British liaison officers.
The Squadron was to operate behind enemy lines in Persia, Iraq and Syria should the Nazis break through the Balkans. As this did not happen, two of the patrols were attached to the LRDG, and in October, 1942 the two remaining patrols joined them as part of the 8th Army. When the desert war was over, there was no employ~ent for the Squadron and they were sent to India where they remained unemployed until the middle of 1944. They were then dispatched to the Persian-Afghan-Russian border to prevent Russian incursions into that area.
